Take Action on the BLM’s Proposed Rule

On Earth Day 2022 President Biden issued an Executive order calling on the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to conserve mature and old growth forests as a climate solution. Now it’s up to us to ensure that this first step turns into real change in how federal agencies manage older forests.  In response to the President’s Executive Order, both USDA and DOI have begun the process to implement the President’s directive. Each agency has placed their proposed Rule in the Federal Register for comments. Currently, the Coast Range Association is focusing on comments to the BLM.

Here’s what we ask you to do:

Read the scientist letter, the Status of Science on Forest Carbon article, the Andy Kerr critique and the BLM’s Fact Sheet. Pick something out of one or more of the mentioned documents that resonates with your views and values. Add your personal message. We ask you to consider using this statement: “The thrust of President’s Executive Order isn’t complicated. We are in a climate emergency. I ask the Oregon BLM to stop cutting any native forest and any tree older than 80 years of age.”
