Two powerful projects in defense of
Oregon’s Mature & Old Growth forests
Trump scraps BLM and
Forest Service forest plans
The administration has announced the new plans will be written for a November adoption. This means that the entire Northwest Forest Plan for national forests in the range of the Spotted owl (CA, OR & WA) will be rewritten along with the land management plan for Oregon’s BLM forests. The BLM has announced they interpret the main governing law over their forests (the O & C Act) as requiring a priority for timber harvest. The agency said they wish to increase timber cutting from 200 million bf per year to 1 billion bf per year!
In response to this clear and present danger, the Coast Range Association is calling for county-level coalitions or alliances to form among all concerned citizens and organizations.
Although the Trump administration has thrown out the 2025 Biden draft forest plan proposal, the Coast Range Association’s comments on the DEIS clarify the proper understanding of wildfire and Coast Range forest management. All three sets of comments are applicable to whatever the BLM and Forest Service release in June.
